Paul Darling grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada and earned a spot at the US Military Academy at West Point. He has multiple deployments including Bosnia in 1996, and in 2008 he deployed to Afghanistan where he served as a Provincial Lead Mentor leading near daily operations against the Taliban with the Afghan Police and his 4 teams of American advisors. Paul describes one of these missions in his book, "Taliban Safari" published in 2019 by the University Press of Kansas. Paul retired from the active military in 2016 and currently resides on the edge of the Cumberland Plateau with his wife, Gretchen. Paul continues to serve in the Tennessee State Guard.
